Almost a month now, finally I got time to write my trip to US. First destination is the big apple- New York.
29.March was the day that I left Finland after I lived there for two years and one month. Listening to some finnish songs I am writing this blog.:)
Long flight from Helsinki to New York but luckily it was a directly flight, after seven hours we were in the JFK airport. The airport was not as big and good as I imagined, rather a little bit messy. All the people rushed to the custom and the procedure took quite long for a normal custom check, I had to leave the finger print again. But everything went ok since I have a chinese passport, they checked more carefully.
Out the airport we found a famous NY yellow cab, our driver was a big black guy and talked with the special accent. The way to the hotel was far, about one hour drive from the airport. While the traffic was also not that good as in Europe, lots of cars and sometimes people just honking to each other. Outside is New York? from the cab window I saw not very clean street and some rather old buildings and among them sometimes were cemetaries...
Finally in the city now, it was quite different than the area near the airport. I did not know how I feel because the long flight and also the time difference, the first impression was that here is not as good as I imagined or I had seen on TV or magzines.
The hotel was good, even the room was a little bit small but it located next to the broadway and we could walk to the center. To prevent to fall asleep in a rather early time here, we decided to go out and explore the big city...
Time square! we were in the time square! It was quite impressive, huge skyscrapers and colorful advertisements, lots of people come here to enjoy the super metropolis. I felt so small among all these buildings, I felt a little bit lost and can not explain why. Maybe when you just in such a different place you could addict to it and really put yourself into it, it is just like a game or a dream or even a soap foam...
Dinner was in a quite good italian restaurant, fist time for me to experience the american way of service, just the opposite to the finnish one.:)
(to be continued...)
